Knut (Norwegian and Swedish), Knud (Danish), or Knútur (Icelandic) is a Scandinavian and German first name, of which the anglicised form is Canute. The Irish Gaelic form is Cnután and the Scottish Gaelic form is Cnut. In Germany both Knut and Knud are used. In Italian, Spanish and Portuguese Canuto is used which comes from the Latin version Canutus, and in Finland, the Finnish name Nuutti, and in Estonia, the Estonian name Kanuut, are based on the name Knut.
