  6. Easy Stories in English

    Easy Stories in English

Learning a language is hard, but Easy Stories in English makes it easy! Ariel Goodbody introduces each story, explaining difficult vocabulary and talking about their life. Thanks to their high energy and clear pronunciation, the stories are entertaining and simple to understand. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced learner, there’s something for everyone. The stories cover a wide range of genres, such as fairy tales, myths and legends, drama, comedy, romance, horror, science fiction and action. There is a balance of children’s stories, as well as more mature themes for adults. While listening to the stories, you can read the transcript at EasyStoriesInEnglish.com and get both reading practice and listening practice. With enough time, you’ll find that your reading and writing skills improve as well. Ariel Goodbody has a strong background in linguistics and language acquisition, and they base the podcast on Stephen Krashen’s theory of comprehensible input. Ariel changes the level of grammar to suit each level, but prioritise comprehension and good storytelling over anything else. Vocabulary is described using paraphrase, cultural references, pictures, intonation and sound effects. British culture, especially English culture, is naturally introduced throughout the episodes. Ariel also has experience in theatre, and treats every episode like an audiobook performance. With character voices, dramatic timing and a range of accents, adults and kids alike will soon forget that they’re ‘learning’ at all! Some of the most well-known stories from the podcast are: the Doggo and Kitty stories, Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tales, The Very Hungry Dragon, Sleeping Beauty, The Perfect Pet, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Why Blood is Red, Saint George and the Dragon and Pioneers of the Continuum. Many stories are adapted from famous authors, such as Edgar Allan Poe, Hans Christian Andersen, Isaac Asimov, Josef Čapek, Margery Williams and Ryuunosuke Akutagawa. Ariel studied linguistics at the University of Cambridge and started teaching in 2018. As a language teacher, they use comprehensible input techniques such as TPRS and story listening. In 2021 they published a series of graded readers. These easy readers allow fans to get their favourite stories in a physical format. Ladies, We Need To Talk

Sex, health and relationships – Yumi Stynes delves into the issues women face but often find hard to talk about.   Episodes are conversational and relatable: we talk to real women about real stuff, from sexuality, mental health, pregnancy, parenting, erotic fantasies and everything in between. Hear from experts about the wonders of our bodies, who answer the question "Am I normal?". Women share their deeply personal stories to help you feel understood and part of a community.   Whether it be the appearance of our vaginas, the orgasm gap or questions about our hormones, we all need reassurance sometimes and Ladies We Need to Talk has your back. The messages we're bombarded with as women can be overwhelming and confusing. Get 8-hours of sleep. Kick goals at work. Be sexy. Look after yourself, look after your kids, your parents, your partner, your dog. Date. Try self-pleasure and masturbation. Experiment with sex toys. Be everything but don't burn out. It can be a lot. The podcast supports women, no matter where they're at in life.   Ladies We Need to Talk brings you stories from women experiencing pelvic pain as well experts in treatment in the field. We cover conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, IBS, period pain, persistent pelvic pain and urinary tract infections.   The symptoms experienced by women during perimenopause, the 10–15-year period before menopause are often underplayed or misdiagnosed by doctors, leaving women feeling confused and unheard. The podcast looks at some of the common symptoms connected with perimenopause, including disturbed sleep, night sweats, hot flushes, dry vagina, mood changes, brain fog and depression.   You'll hear advice about how to cope with metal health issues. Women share their tips on sobriety and exploring being sober curious when alcohol starts to have an unhealthy impact. You'll also hear from psychologists and case studies on how to cope with anxiety. Get practical advice on what to do when life feels overwhelming and worry takes over.   Coercive control, a pattern of manipulative and intimidating behaviours within a relationship is also discussed on the podcast.   Different ways of having romantic and sexual relationships are talked about openly. You'll meet swingers who go to sex parties and polyamorous couples negotiating bringing up children as well as monogamous couples dealing with sharing the mental load.   As caregivers, women often bear the brunt of caring responsibility within the home and the wider family. You'll hear women from the "sandwich generation" who are raising their kids while looking after aging parents.

Growth Mindset Psychology: The Science of Self-Improvement

There are a lot of opinions on how to master your mind, but then there’s PSYCHOLOGY. We’re all stuck with the brain we’re born with, but we aren’t stuck with how we use it. Learn science-backed answers to make the most of your mind and your life. CURIOUS? Growth Mindset Psychology is the "self-help sceptic" podcast for the curious. Whether you want to improve performance, navigate setbacks, or know who you are. We find answers to the true science of self-improvement. So put down the astrology chart and start working with your mind, instead of against it. With over 8 million downloads and 60,000 monthly listeners, you’re invited to join. PROCESS Instead of telling you what to think, we discuss how thinking works. Armed with a stack of science journals, textbooks and a boatload of curiosity, we uncover the mechanics of the mind. Why? >>> Success is personal! You might want to make the most of your neurodiverse strengths, start a business, or simply find more reasons to smile. Hone your ability for independent thinking and growth with mental models to pursue your definition of success. HOST I’m Sam Webster Harris, a lifelong learner with ADHD, a raging curiosity, and an obsession with finding answers to hard questions. After launching several businesses, travelling the world and nearly dying a few times I concluded that science and Psychology are where it’s at. What actually makes people happy? What’s the best way to treat a brain? How can I get more done? Studying the answers we find that changing behaviours requires building mindsets, mental models, and a healthy relationship with failure. I run the show to help listeners enjoy nutritious content that feeds their minds (and I needed a legitimate excuse to cover for my reading addiction). 5. The Coming Storm

    The Coming Storm

America through the looking glass - enter a world where nothing is as it seems. As America heads into a presidential election, Gabriel Gatehouse dives back into the labyrinthine rabbit warren of American conspiracy culture. Whilst liberals across the world worry about a possible return of Donald Trump, millions of Americans are convinced that their democracy has already been highjacked - by a sinister Deep State cabal. How did this happen? And who is behind it? That's the story that Gabriel Gatehouse is investigating in this series of The Coming Storm. The search for the origins of this story takes Gabriel inside a paranoid political group that tried to build its own Deep State during the Cold War, now back in fashion in the conservative backwaters of western mountain states. Gabriel meets the January 6 rioters running for office who see their detention as political imprisonment in gulags, and the militia men convinced the CIA and FBI are working against the American people. In the background lurk the tech utopian ideologues, using their vast wealth and power to fund conspiracy flavoured content as they work to create sovereign states free of all government control. And online, amateur finance bros foment distrust of government, central banks and giant financial institutions to millions of followers. What were once fringe ideas have burst into the mainstream. Conspiracy theories have become central planks of Trump's Republican Party, while Democrats run on dark warnings about the end of democracy. With both sides convinced the other is an existential threat, what are the prospects for the survival of the American political system?

Kids & Family

  1. The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian: Science Fiction for Kids

The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian: Science Fiction for Kids

The Alien Adventures of Finn Caspian is a serialized science-fiction story for kids (start with Episode 1), told in 15-20 minute episodes for parents to put on when driving around town, or to marathon on road trips, or to bond over before bed. The story centers on Finn Caspian, an 8-year-old boy aboard The Famous Marlowe 280 Interplanetary Exploratory Space Station. He and his friends Abigail, Elias and Vale are Explorers Troop 301, taking off from the Marlowe to explore uncharted planets, help the occasional alien, and solve a mystery that threatens to destroy the Marlowe. When pressed, we describe it as a "mystery gang" story, sort of like Scooby-Doo in space. The story is written and performed by Jonathan Messinger, author of Hiding Out, former web editor of Time Out Chicago Kids, and father of two boys. His son Griffin, 7, serves as editor of the story, appearing in episodes to critique, make predictions and express skepticism that his father knows what he's talking about, which also happens to be the way the rest of their relationship works. Produced in partnership with Gen-Z Media. For more great shows, visit GZMshows.com.

  7. Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? And Other Crimes

Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? And Other Crimes

Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? was a question shared by brides Helen McLaughlin and Karen Whitehouse after they tied the knot on 11 August, 2018 on a boat in Amsterdam. It was a question that launched a podcast, which led to the hiring of unqualified detective Lauren Kilby, the purchase of a €99 lie detector, and the bothering of some of the world’s best forensic experts - all in an attempt to find out “poo dunnit”. For season 2, the investigative trio is back with a brand new mystery set in Sweden (Scandi Noir if you will) called The Case Of The Tiny Suit/Case. They now live by the phrase “when the cops say no, we say yes”. This season explores a serial act of reverse theft: a tiny three piece corduroy suit and a suitcase containing threatening items were planted on the victim’s veranda in the middle of nowhere. Our forensic experts are also back on board, not because they want to be, but because we asked really really nicely, (and Karen can be unnervingly persuasive). Hosted on Acast. She was found guilty once again. Follow the trial's evidence just as the jury do, with twice-weekly reports from Daily Mail northern correspondent Liz Hull and broadcast journalist Caroline Cheetham. In this podcast, they bring you far more detail about what the jury heard, examine key moments of the trial, and conduct exclusive interviews with investigative detectives, victims, and experts. Ghibliotheque - A Podcast About Studio Ghibli

Welcome to the Ghibliotheque, the podcast that leafs through libraries of films from the world’s greatest animation studios. In 2018, Michael Leader, an avowed Studio Ghibli fanatic, sat down with Jake Cunningham, who had never seen any of the Studio’s work before. Together they looked at the history behind Ghibli's films (including Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro and Princess Mononoke), and got a critical perspective from Jake as a first-time viewer. They covered all of Studio Ghibli's films, visited Japan on the ultimate Ghibli pilgrimage, and have since interviewed artists, animators and filmmakers who have either worked on or have been deeply inspired by Ghibli's films. With their co-host Steph Watts, they have also branched out to cover filmographies of other studios and filmmakers whose work has revolutionised animation, from Satoshi Kon and Mamoru Hosoda to Cartoon Saloon and Henry Selick.Where will we go next? 4.
