  6. Easy Stories in English

    Easy Stories in English

Learning a language is hard, but Easy Stories in English makes it easy! Ariel Goodbody introduces each story, explaining difficult vocabulary and talking about their life. Thanks to their high energy and clear pronunciation, the stories are entertaining and simple to understand. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate or advanced learner, there’s something for everyone. The stories cover a wide range of genres, such as fairy tales, myths and legends, drama, comedy, romance, horror, science fiction and action. There is a balance of children’s stories, as well as more mature themes for adults. While listening to the stories, you can read the transcript at EasyStoriesInEnglish.com and get both reading practice and listening practice. With enough time, you’ll find that your reading and writing skills improve as well. Ariel Goodbody has a strong background in linguistics and language acquisition, and they base the podcast on Stephen Krashen’s theory of comprehensible input. Ariel changes the level of grammar to suit each level, but prioritise comprehension and good storytelling over anything else. Vocabulary is described using paraphrase, cultural references, pictures, intonation and sound effects. British culture, especially English culture, is naturally introduced throughout the episodes. Ariel also has experience in theatre, and treats every episode like an audiobook performance. With character voices, dramatic timing and a range of accents, adults and kids alike will soon forget that they’re ‘learning’ at all! Some of the most well-known stories from the podcast are: the Doggo and Kitty stories, Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tales, The Very Hungry Dragon, Sleeping Beauty, The Perfect Pet, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Why Blood is Red, Saint George and the Dragon and Pioneers of the Continuum. Many stories are adapted from famous authors, such as Edgar Allan Poe, Hans Christian Andersen, Isaac Asimov, Josef Čapek, Margery Williams and Ryuunosuke Akutagawa. Ariel studied linguistics at the University of Cambridge and started teaching in 2018. As a language teacher, they use comprehensible input techniques such as TPRS and story listening. In 2021 they published a series of graded readers. These easy readers allow fans to get their favourite stories in a physical format. 6. The Murder on the Link - Agatha Christie

The Murder on the Link - Agatha Christie

"The Murder on the Links" is a detective novel by Agatha Christie, first published in 1923. It features one of her most famous characters, the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, and his friend and assistant, Captain Hastings. The story is set in France, where Poirot is called upon to solve a murder case. The plot revolves around the murder of a millionaire, Paul Renauld, found stabbed in the back and buried in a newly dug grave adjacent to a golf course. Renauld had written to Poirot for help, fearing for his life, but by the time Poirot arrives, Renauld is already dead. The investigation uncovers a complex web of relationships, secrets, and motives, including Renauld's troubled family life and his past connections.Throughout the novel, Christie showcases her trademark twisty plot, red herrings, and clever misdirections. Poirot's methodical and psychologically astute approach to detective work is contrasted with the more impulsive style of the local French police and Captain Hastings. In true Christie fashion, the resolution involves unexpected revelations and a cleverly hidden murderer, with Poirot meticulously unraveling the intricacies of the case."The Murder on the Links" is notable for its well-crafted plot, engaging characters, and the delightful interplay between Poirot and Hastings. It is a classic example of Christie's skill in creating a compelling and intricate mystery.

Parenting teenagers untangled. 🏆 Award-winning podcast for parents of teens and tweens.

Welcome to your weekly audio hug full of research, tips and discussions for parents of teens and tweens. It may look like other parents are perfect but even experts make mistakes because parenting well is a constant challenge. That's why I want to stress that the most important thing we can do is focus on building our connection by being more curious and less critical of both our kids and ourselves. Admitting our mistakes isn't failure, it's growth.I've designed this audio hug to help calm your fears, learn from the mistakes of others, and grow in confidence in your role. Before each episode I do lots of research to understand what's going on in this rapidly-changing world. I'm hoping it can help us all to be as prepared as possible for whatever life throws at us.  Susie then brings her wealth of expertise and experience in mindfulness to the discussion as we talk through the options for parenting in an imperfect world, offering tips on the things we've learned along the way. What the Independent Podcasting Award judges said:  'The advice within the podcast on how to deal with what life throws at you is universally helpful, not just for those with teenagers.'  'A good mix of personal stories alongside professional insight; it's addressing something different, and helps its audience with the references and extra information provided in episode notes.'  'The rapport between the hosts, Rachel and Susie, is great with a good mix of them chatting, but also providing context for the listener and remembering them within the conversation.' For more discussion and tips, you can find us on Facebook and Instagram. 3. Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? And Other Crimes

Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? And Other Crimes

Who Shat On The Floor At My Wedding? was a question shared by brides Helen McLaughlin and Karen Whitehouse after they tied the knot on 11 August, 2018 on a boat in Amsterdam. It was a question that launched a podcast, which led to the hiring of unqualified detective Lauren Kilby, the purchase of a €99 lie detector, and the bothering of some of the world’s best forensic experts - all in an attempt to find out “poo dunnit”. For season 2, the investigative trio is back with a brand new mystery set in Sweden (Scandi Noir if you will) called The Case Of The Tiny Suit/Case. They now live by the phrase “when the cops say no, we say yes”. This season explores a serial act of reverse theft: a tiny three piece corduroy suit and a suitcase containing threatening items were planted on the victim’s veranda in the middle of nowhere. Our forensic experts are also back on board, not because they want to be, but because we asked really really nicely, (and Karen can be unnervingly persuasive). Hosted on Acast. 2.
