Herscher is located in southwestern Kankakee County. Illinois Route 115 forms the northern edge of the village; the highway leads east 16 miles (26 km) to Kankakee, the county seat. According to the 2010 census, Herscher has a total area of 1.81 square miles (4.69 km2), all land. Demographics. As of the census of 2000, there were 1,523 people, 533 households, and 430 families residing in the village.
