Álvaro Enrigue (born 6 August 1969) is a Mexican novelist, short-story writer, essayist, and academic. He is the author of six novels, three books of short stories, and one book of essays. Early life. The son of a Jalisco lawyer and a chemist and refugee from Barcelona, he is the youngest of four brothers. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Mexico City because of his father's law work. He studied for a degree in journalism at the Universidad Iberoamericana, where he was later a literature professor.
