Zoe Waxman (1986-88)
Joining Jill and Doron on this episode, to tell us her story, is our very first female guest on the podcast, Oxford University Professor Zoë Waxman (1986-88).
Zoë Waxman is the inaugural Professor of Holocaust History at the University of Oxford. She is the author of three books on the Holocaust, as well as numerous articles relating to the Holocaust and genocide. She was a pupil at Carmel from 1986 to 1988, and has a younger brother, Dov, who was also at Carmel.
Hear Zoë explain how her time at Carmel inspired her to become a Holocaust scholar. You’ll also hear Jill divulge a secret of her one-time Friday afternoon beauty routine (it involves unconventional use of a hair dryer).
Dedication: at Zoë’s request, this episode is dedicated to the memory of Sharon Hannah Levine, Zoë’s best friend at Carmel, who sadly died in a car accident in the UK in December 1990.
Thank you, Zoë, for turning us again to Carmel days!

The Road from Carmel
75 years after Carmel College's founding (in 1948), “The Road from Carmel” podcast, hosted by old-Carmelis Jill Kenton (1982-88) and Doron Junger (1983-88), tells the stories - your stories! - of the men and women who once attended a rather special boarding school tucked away in the English countryside for the Jewish boys and girls of the world.
