Episode 23 - Coptic

The Base Conversations · 2020-09-17

Coptic born Eric Kwabena Matlock migrated to the USA aged 13 from his motherland Ghana. He joined Teddy Abrokwa for an in-depth on IG Live during the lock down period to talk about his upbringing in Accra and the mountains of Akuapem in Ghana. From shooting birds in the bush to producing for the likes of Diddy, Ice Cube, Jermaine Dupri, there are a lot of gaps in-between that Kwabena had to fill us in on this episode. He details how he said no to selling a beat to B.I.G before his break to stardom, Jay-Z not selecting any of the beats he played him and working with the best of artists from Ghana. Coptic also pays homage to Harvey Pierre and D-Dot Angelettie who were influential in his career. His last project, the Blackstar Line album is available on all streaming platforms.
