Matrescence, Milk and Melt-Downs: welcome to motherhood

Matrescence, Milk and Melt-Downs: welcome to motherhood

Sleep like a baby? · 2021-06-02

This week I'm speaking to midwife and lactation consultant Olivia Hinge (aka @olivia_lactaction_consultatant on IG) about the adjustment we all go through into motherhood, whether that's with your first baby or your fourth. We discuss the process of matrescence and how unrecognised it is in society, even though it is as significant a change for a woman as adolescence!

However you feed your baby, this episode explores all the hormonal changes we go through as mothers and why we often find it so hard to say 'I am struggling!'

We talk about what is normal infant sleep for a breastfed baby, when you might want to seek feeding help and some free resources out there for new parents looking for feeding advice.

Olivia mentions a few resources such as:

The Unicef Breastfeeding checklist

La Leche League, NCT infant feeding and National Breastfeeding helplines
