Trump Blamed As Democrats Win Big In The US Midterms

2026-11-04

Today, with most of the votes counted in the US midterm elections the Democratic Party has taken control of Congress. A string of Republican strongholds turned blue including Texas, South Carolina and Kansas. President Trump earlier acknowledged the that Iran war and the rising cost of living were factors in his party’s defeat.

To assess why the democrats have done so well, and what this means for the next two years of Trump’s presidency, James Cook is joined from Washington by chief news presenter Caitríona Perry and Stephen Hawkins, global director of research at the pollster More in Common.

And, Chris Mason has been talking to Ed Miliband for Newscast in Antigua. They unpack the implications of the UK Government considering a formal apology for the UK's role in the transatlantic slave trade.
